Happy 1st Birthday Daniyal!

Shahid made a very astute observation: A birthday is not like a dinner. Obvious as that may be, let me explain. Birthdays involve kids and every kid has a different radar of enjoyment output. Now, managing the collective radars of children, while struggling for some form of uniformity (and peaceful silence), while trying to look composed and graceful, you have to employ at least three human brains and 7 arms. 3 sets for the multi tasking required for games and co-ordination, and one for scratching your head in the heat.

That said, I (as the mother, chief cook and primary nurturer) felt the party went off well. There were those few odd minutes of absolute chaos when I was putting the food on the table and Daniyal was seized with a bout of clingy-ness when I absolutely blipped out to the minute expressions and personal needs of people, but other than that (...and the fact that a table for 6 people is too small for Pakistani eateries on special occasions), it went off well.

Daniyal has been inundated with presents. And while my initial sugrapana wants to pan out the child-attention-span-to-novelty-factor by slowly opening these presents over the next five years, I am sure Shahid is going to open them all tomorrow and Daniyal will be too excited to let me hide them. Therefore, first and foremost, thank you every body (for the kind gesture towards my child, and my husband...who lives vicariously through my child). Secondly, thank you for coming. Your presence made our event even more memorable.

In a burst of motherly love and excitement, I made the cake myself. Everything was home baked. A bit overwhelming, especially since a panadol extra can only take you so far :)
Therefore, please note: next year the party with be outsourced (InshAllah).

In no particular order, attached here are pictures.
